Likely thrillers mark Absa Premiership return

ceebration 2_resizedJOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Absa Premiership will resume this weekend with log leaders, Platinum Stars, eager to consolidate their lead at the standings against Ajax Cape Town.

The match, scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Moruleng Stadium in the Northwest, promises fireworks with Stars bubbling with confidence following their emphatic 3-1 victory over SuperSport United in their last encounter.

On the other hand, Ajax Cape Town held premiership defending champions Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw, to remain seventh.

Chiefs, who are inconsistent this season, host rejuvenated Mpumalanga Black Aces at the First National Bank Stadium in Soweto an evening earlier.

Two of the league’s leading marksmen will be on show.

Chiefs will be keeping their hopes on George Lebese while Aces have Zambian import Collins Mbesuma firing from all cylinders.

Aces who are on second while Chiefs are fifth, their worst position in three seasons.

Elsewhere, improving Bloemfontein Celtic are away to Premiership returnees Golden Arrows at the Chastworth Stadium on Saturday.

In the day’s other action, lowly Chippa United host struggling Supersport United at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Ambitious Bidvest Wits host winless Jomo Cosmos at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.

Action continues on Sunday with Mamelodi Sundowns hosting struggling Polokwane City at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

The league campaign was on a recess to make way for the Telkom Knockout
and the international games.
