DURBAN, (CAJ News) – A man has been arrested following a supermarket robbery in northern KwaZulu-Natal Province.

Six others are still at large.

It was alleged on Wednesday, the victim was working in the supermarket when she was approached by seven armed suspects.

She was allegedly assaulted and threatened with firearms then robbed of cellphones, undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes and airtime vouchers.
The suspects fled the scene using their own getaway car.

Local police were alerted and they immediately responded to a robbery. The suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.

The arrest was made after the police reacted to a business robbery in progress at one of the supermarkets in the area, yesterday.

He was found in possession of cellphones suspected to be taken during the robbery.

The arrested suspect was due to appear in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the Jozini police for their swift response that led to the arrest of the suspect. “The arrested suspect will be profiled to ascertain if he cannot be linked to other robberies in the province. We also appeal to the public to give us information about the whereabouts of the outstanding suspects,” she said.
