The suspects, aged between 28 and 37, allegedly broke into one of the butcheries in Longmarket Street, Pietermaritzburg and tried to steal cash which was in a safe. The alarm is said to have went off and police swiftly responded and caught the suspects inside the business premises.
They were found in possession of housebreaking implements including one grinder, eight metal cutting discs, hammer, crowbar, two chissels, two metal bolt cutters, metal saw, four black balaclavas, saw pliers extension cord, and three pairs of gloves.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the members for the quick response to the incident and arresting the suspects.
The suspects will be arraigned in court soon.
