JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – TELKOM, the telecommunications services provider, has released a satisfactory set of results for the half year ended September 30.

During the period, Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) improved 15,1 percent to R5 billion while headline earnings per share, excluding the one-off items, increased 13,9 percent to 280, 6 cents.

Mobile service and subscription revenue increased 41 percent to R1,2 billion as mobile data revenue increased 69 percent to R711 million.Operating expenses, excluding depreciation, decreased 2,3 percent to R9 billion.

During the period under review, Telkom continued with its efforts to transform the company and stabilise revenue.“We are pleased with the improved performance of our mobile business and our multiyear cost efficiency program and will continue with these initiatives to bring about further improvements,” said Telkom Group Chief Executive Officer, Sipho Maseko.

He said the challenges of intense competition, the soft economy and the evolutionary nature of the industry Telkom found itself in would remain.“As a result, the ongoing transformation of our business, from both a revenue and cost efficiency perspective, remains our key focus,” said Maseko.
