JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Province has its first weekly publication.

The inaugural edition of Gauteng Guardian is set to hit the streets of the province on Thursday, 21st January.

The newspaper, which is based in Johannesburg, will have a bureau in the capital Pretoria (Tshwane). It will distribute in all six districts of Gauteng, and 65 townships.

The new publication, which will be specialised in reporting Pan-Africa news development, arts and culture, business, education, environment, health, investment, infrastructure, ICT, politics, sport and water and sanitation.

“I’m very much excited to announce the first weekly of its kind and historic for Gauteng. While we have so many newspapers operating in the province, a majority of them are either national or community-based,” said Naledi Modise, Gauteng Guardian Editor.

“For the first time in the history of Gauteng province, this shall be great news development the country’s economic hub to have own weekly newspaper publication covering all the six districts, 65 townships including economic hubs of Pretoria and Johannesburg,” added Modise.

She said while most of the country’s national newspapers were based in Johannesburg, none was exclusively for the province.

“We have set the motion, and broken the barriers! As historic makers, I would like to assure our readers of fair, objective and representative news coverage for Gauteng. What makes this exciting is the fact that the entrepreneurs will be given much voice,” said Modise

Gauteng Guardian’s Media and Communications, Themba Ndlovu, expressed excitement at the project.

“We call ourselves the new Premier of Gauteng because this is historic! We will be distributing the newspaper in all townships, surburbs, major retail outlets, garages, among others, and also afford individuals, SMMEs, the corporate, the government, an opportunity to subscribe to single or bulk copies ” said Ndlovu.

“The weekly publication brings deeper understanding to Gauteng province’s possibilities and difficulties today, challenges conventional views, explores the future of the province, and use new tools to give voice to perspectives that inspire both growth and development,” Ndlovu added.

The African Press Association (Pty) Ltd based in Bramley, Johannesburg publishes and owns the Gauteng Guardian.

The newspaper will be publish every Thursday.

It will cover Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, Metsweding and West Rand districts.
