SCAM ALERT 1PRETORIA, (CAJ News) – MEMBERS of the public have been alerted to bogus schemes offering non-existent learnerships at the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
Such job offers are doing rounds on popular social networks such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter.
The advert uses RTMC/TT/2016 as the reference to apply for the post, with the due date being March 30.
RTMC has distanced itself from the advert as it currently has no vacancies for traffic officer learnerships.
“We urge all victims of such an ad to immediately report the incident to the nearest South African Police Service Station or contact the RTMC anti-fraud unit on 012 999 5200,” the corporation says.
The agency’s anti-corruption unit has commenced investigations.
“Members of the public should note that there are numerous training providers who claim that they can train traffic officers and issue certificates with which a person can be registered and be employed as a traffic officer,” RTMC adds.
It notes South Africa has 13 Traffic Training Colleges that have been approved by the Minister of Transport in terms of the National Road Traffic Act (NRTA).
“Any person who wishes to be employed as a traffic officer must be trained for one year at an approved Traffic Training College. Prospective learners should not pay training fees to any individual to secure a space at a training college, as this is done by the local or provincial authorities.”
Applicants have been advised to ensure that the colleges that they use for the Basic Traffic Officers’ Course are fully registered, accredited and approved in terms of the NRTA.
