JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – JOHANNESBURG City Power Board has welcomed the exoneration of its Managing Director, Sipho Xulu, from allegations of impropriety.

The board said it had resolved and concluded, after considering all available information and the independent legal advice received by it, that there was no substance to the allegations levelled against Xulu.

Last year, the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) threatened to go on strike demanding that the Board suspend Xulu, pending investigations into a number of allegations.

The allegations ranged from alleged improper conduct, to flouting of procurement processes and recruitment practices.

The City Power Board said it undertook its own internal investigation to consider the legitimacy of the allegations.

Franck Chikane, City Power board chairman, implored people to refrain from making damning allegations that could not be substantiated as they tarnished the reputation of those who are accused and cast aspersions on their credibility and integrity.

“We are pleased and relieved that Mr. Xulu has been exonerated from all the allegations levelled against him, and he is now free to focus his energies on delivering on his mandate of keeping the lights on for the residents of Johannesburg and delivering superior customer service to the residents and businesses in Johannesburg,” said Chikane.
