Financial education curriculum for businesses launched

JOHANNESBURG ,( CAJ News) – STANDARD Chartered Bank and Shanduka Black Umbrellas (SBU), an empowerment organization, have launched a curriculum that will benefit indigenous business owners.

Businesses registered with Shanduka Black Umbrellas will benefit from the partnership that aims to enhance financial literacy levels mainly among non- bank client micro and small business entrepreneurs.

The partnership between Standard Chartered and SBU has culminated in The Financial Education for Entrepreneurs curriculum covers topics that range from business planning to cash flow management.

This is the bank’s community programme launched in 2013 and is currently active in 11 markets across our footprint.

To date, the programme has reached over 1 200 micro and small business owners in our other markets.

Chief Operating Officer of  Shanduka Black Umbrellas, Emmanuel Mdhluli, Standard Chartered’s involvement in the partnership.

“We are always truly thankful when corporate invest in the future of South Africa through entrepreneur development, this programme not only addresses these critical financial literacy gaps but provides crucial life skills to
our clients and ensures sustainability for the future,” said Mdhluli.

Speaking at the launch of Financial Education at SBU in Johannesburg, Standard Chartered South Africa and Southern Africa Chief Executive Officer, Richard Etemesi, said, the scheme would empower indigenous owned businesses in South Africa with basic financial literacy.

“As a bank, we are uniquely positioned as subject matter experts to play a leading part in empowering micro and small business owners,” added Etemesi.
