Constitution Hill festival marks Soweto Uprising

JOHANNESBURG- THE Constitution Hill will on Saturday present the Basha Uhuru Youth Festival: Sounds of Freedom as part of celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the 1976 student uprisings.

The music festival will culminate in a month-long commemoration.

The event will art exhibitions, film screenings, theatre productions, panel discussions and networking sessions.

Also on Friday, there will be a heritage cycling tour from Hector Pieterson Museum to Constituion Hill, followed by a time-travel tour which will re-enact the events of the June 16, 1976 from Orlando to Number Four at Constitution Hill.

Market @ The Fort, Constitution Hill’s monthly lifestyle market, will be a fusion of food, fashion, and accessories to complement the Basha Uhuru music concert.

The music festival will be have two stages featuring an explosive line-up of artists such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Reason, Stogie T (Tumi Molekane), BCUC, Nonku Phiri, Kenzhero and many more.

Doors open at 10am and entrance is free.
