JOHANNESBURG- A LEADING furniture and appliances retailer is counting its losses after protestors looted its outlet in Mabopane during the violent skirmishes in Pretoria.
Fair Price is among the shops that have been destroyed during the protests that have been sparked by the ruling African National Congress (ANC) nominated former Minister, Thoko Didiza, ahead of incumbent, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, for the Mayoral position in the August elections.
Criminals have made the most of the crisis to loot shops.
Fair Price Marketing Director, Mohammed Moolla, says property worth 1,5 million had been looted at its outlet in Mabopane.
“We love the people of Mabopane, they loved us. What have you (looters) done to us?” a concerned Moolla says.
On Thursday, an opposition party pledged to aid law enforcement officials to bring those responsible to book and will be providing all useful information in our possession to the Hawks to aid their investigation.
“While those responsible must face the full force of the law, their prosecution does not detract from the fact that the ANC as a party is equally to blame,” said Solly Msimanga, Democratic Alliance Mayoral candidate for Pretoria.
Some 40 people have been arrested.
