JOHANNESBURG – Democratic Alliance has welcomed Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi’s commitment to launch an investigation into latest revelations regarding ‘hair policy’ at Pretoria Girls High School.

The ruling party in the Gauteng metro denounced some of the alleged school policies that it termed as both divisive and discriminatory.

The party has proposed the report should t be tabled before the Gauteng Legislature for scrutiny.

“Policies that unfairly discriminate against people are unconstitutional and do not have a place in our democratic dispensation” said the party in a media statement.

Meanwhile , EFF has called on all institutions of learning to remove from their policies any directives on hair.

The party said such policies are inherently racist and must be rejected outright in a society that is struggling to be equal and all-encompassing.

“ People’s natural looks or how they choose to adorn themselves are a right we must protect jealously “ said Fana Mokoena acting EFF Spokesperson in a statement .
