SA e-Sports team targets glory in Indonesia

JOHANNESBURG – THE South African team is in high spirits at the eighth International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) World Championships that resume on Thursday in Indonesia.

The eProteas League of Legends team has been pitted against heavyweights Serbia and Romania at the global tournament set for the capital Jakarta until Sunday.

Serbia and Romania ranked first and sixth respectively.

Belgium, the Netherlands, Costa Rica are other contenders in the group ranked below South Africa who are 12th in the standings.

The Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has assured South Africans the team will give its best to raise country’s flag high.

“The battle lines have now been drawn. The various teams are now eyeing each other in order to go for the prize”, says Colin Webster, MSSA General Secretary.

The 2016 South African League of Legends team has been touted as the most internationally experienced team to ever leave local shores.

It boasts veteran players of the calibre of Matthew Smith, Maryke Kennard, Taylor Rose, Johan van Breda and Johan Uys.

A number of television channels will broadcast the event from the Asian country.
