JOHANNESBURG – TEARS of joy have flown in Johannesburg after a nurse from Springs drove away in a luxury set of wheels for clinching the Fair Price win-a-car competition.
Charity Mohlala (31) won the grand prize after a draw conducted at the furniture and appliances retailer’s head offices in Johannesburg.
She won a silver Volkswagen Polo Vivo 1,4 following a competition that ran for three months until entries closed on October 31.
An emotional Mohlala was elated at winning the grand prize.
“I am ecstatic,” she told CAJ News as she struggled to contain tears of joy.
“I struggled for transport each time I worked at night shift and would at times sleep at the hospital. I am grateful to Fair Price for this prize. It is the first prize I have ever won”
Meanwhile, Nozipho Nzoyi of Hillbrow won the second prize, a Samsung refrigerator worth R12 000.
Sarah Mahlake won a Samsung LED (light-emitting diode) television set valued at R8 500.
They were the three finalists from over 2 000 that entered the competition by virtue of buying a Samsung product at each of Fair Prize’s over 90 outlets across the country.
Marketing Director, Mohammed Moolla, said the competition was aimed at empowering customers.
“The competition has managed to change another client’s life. She has been at times sleeping at a hospital but will from now be able to drive home after late shifts,” Moolla said.
This was the second edition of the win-a-car competition.
Last year, Joyce Ratau of Polokwane won the grand prize.
