Youth commitment to social challenges rewarded

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SOUTH Africa’s most innovative education centres have been rewards in Johannesburg.
They were rewarded for initiating business models that address social challenges.
New Headphone Inventors (NHI) from Afrika-Tikkun Phutadijaba Centre (Alexander) emerged the winners.
Two runner – ups, Repad Ambassadors and Flaunting Africa from Ribane-Laka High School (Mamelodi) and Westering High School (Port Elizabeth) respectively closely followed.
The wards were held under the aegis of STEP UP 2 A START UP ceremony that saw the top ten entrepreneurial teams (comprised of 2 – 3 learners), identified through a national competition and adjudication process, showcase their business innovations amid a flurry of excitement.
The awards were valued at R1,6 million.
Hosted at the Crown Reef Convention Centre by programme partners, Tsogo Sun, the occasion was graced by government officials including the Premier of Gauteng; David Makhura, MEC for Education; Panyaza Lesufi and executives from key sponsors (led by Sasol, MTN Foundation, Sizwe IT Group and the National Youth Development Agency). – CAJ News
