SPRINGS, (CAJ News) – THE Ekurhuleni has restated its commitment to empowering youth facing challenges with the transition from high school to tertiary education or the workplace.A number of unemployed youngsters have recently been selected to participate in internships and learnership programmes at the municipality or at its partner organisations in and around the region.Others have been awarded bursaries to continue with their studies.Recently, Ekurhuleni together with youth owned enterprises, corporates and graduates hosted Ekurhuleni Youth Economic Summit and Career Expo to empower youth through skills development at Birchwood hotel and conference centre, Boksburg.
“As the city, we are determined to ensure that the emancipation of the youth as a whole mark of our administration,” Head of Economic Development for City of Ekurhuleni, Caiphus Chauke, said.“We need to consolidate various database of unemployed youth and youth that are seeking opportunities,” he said.The City of Ekurhuleni set aside a procurement budget to mainstream young people into work.Executive mayor, Mzwandile Masina, has announced a R12 billion reinforcing procurement budget for local businesses.The City of Ekurhuleni has established a strategic relationship with BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), which will culminate in Ekurhuleni hosting the BRICS Summit Skills Development in 2018.Executive Director: Business Development and Corporate Affairs at BRICS,Bhabhalaze Bulunga, advised youth to own their market if they want to succeed in life.“If you own a market, you have power,” Bulunga said.
