JOHANNESBURG, (Gauteng Guardian) – TEN of the country’s best provincial junior football teams will contest the SAB U21 National Championships set for Soweto next week.
The South African Football Association (SAFA), in partnership with league sponsors, SAB, launched the annual tournament on Wednesday.
The nine provinces and the University Sport South Africa (USSA) will participate at the tournament at the Nike Football centre on July 24 – 30.
SAFA Gauteng Regional President, Anthony Reeves, thanked SAB for partnering with SAFA through the junior league.
“The SAB League has over the years proven that corporate companies also play a significant role in the development of football,” Reeves said.
“We have seen a number of professional footballers coming out of this league, resulting in our national teams benefitting from such partnerships.”
The league has produced a number of professional footballers including Andile Jali, Themba Zwane and most recently, Teboho Mokoena.
In attendance was Supersport United midfielder, Reneilwe Letsholonyane who was also unearthed from this league.
SAB’s Corporate Affairs Director, Nirishi Trikamjee, said the 2016/17 SAB League season stood out as one of the most exciting seasons of the league  since the start of SAB’s partnership with SAFA.
“Our commitment to innovation has seen us succesfully advance the development of football through the various initiatives such as the SAB League Skills Camp and higher education bursaries,” Trikamjee.
