JOHANNESBURG – HUAWEI has marked a milestone in its strategy of building its ecosystem alliance talent in South Africa with the certification of the 16 Huawei Authorised Information and Network Academy (HAINA) graduates from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
On Friday, the global leader of information and communications technology solutions, and its channel partners hosted a certification award ceremony as well as interview sessions at the Huawei Innovation and Experience Centre in Sandton.
Together with participating channel partners DataCentrix, Gijima, EOH, Mustek and Pinnacle, they presented HCNA-Router and Switch certificates to the HAINA-trained graduates.
The students form the first group to be certified from a Huawei-partnered university in Southern Africa.
As part of their graduation, interviews were hosted for these students to meet Huawei’s partner companies, to be given first priority for internships and employment opportunities.
“We are really proud of the graduates,” said David Feng, Solutions Director of Huawei Enterprise Business Group for South Africa.
Huawei has already launched the HAINA programme to five universities in South Africa.
Besides TUT, the programme has been launched at Durban University of Technology, University of Johannesburg and University of the Witwatersrand and Vaal University of Technology.
One of the graduates, Wisani Mkhonto, said she was inspired to enter the ICT field after noting few women were in the profession.
“”I thought of challenging myself,” she said.
Solly Phatle Maswikaneng TUT Acting Head of Department: IT hailed the partnership with Huawei.
“We are proud of the pilot project and we wish it could be extended to other areas because at the end of the day, we are investing in our young minds. We are committed to empowering our people and resourcing our students,” Maswikaneng said.
Huawei Ecosystem Talent Alliance aims to form a talent ecological chain consisting of students/public, network academies, and partners/customers with the aim of fostering a virtuous cycle of ICT knowledge and talent.
Feng said Huawei hoped to cultivate a better ICT talent eco-system for South Africa.
“We will continue to encourage students to participate in Huawei’s Career Certifications and look forward to incorporating these certifications into our customers’ ICT talent development systems,” the executive said.
