JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SOUTH African President, Jacob Zuma, has reshuffled his cabinet some seven months after a similar move culminated in Africa’s most advanced economy’s credit rating downgraded to junk status.
On Tuesday morning, Zuma said the latest cabinet resghuffle came after “careful consideration.”
Following the reshuffle, Prof. Hlengiwe Mkhize is the Minister of Higher Education and Training. Ayanda Dlodlo is the Minister of Home Affairs.
Mmamaloko Kubayi is the new Minister of Communications while David Mahlobo is the Minister of Energy.
Bongani Bongo is the Minister of State Security while Buti Manamela is the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training.
Zuma critic, Blade Nzimande, has been dropped in favour of Manamela.
“I thank the former members of the National Executive for good service in their previous portfolios. I wish the members who are assuming new portfolios all the best in their new responsibilities,” Zuma said.
Opposition Democratic Alliance leader, Mmusi Maimane, said the firing of Nzimande was in line with Zuma’s “war against anyone who opposes his project of State Capture.”
“Dr Blade follows Pravin Gordhan, Derek Hanekom, Mcebisi Jonas and others who have failed to toe the Zuma line and have found themselves out of office.”
Mmaimane said the reshuffle reaffirmed Zuma’s African National Congress was committed to self-enrichment and self-advancement at the expense of the South African people.
“Come 2019, South Africans must use their power to vote out this self-serving ANC government at the ballot box and choose a new beginning for our country.”
