Limpopo superfan Baloyi hopes for better fortunes

JOHANNESBURG – HE may have missed out on the on the whopping R1 million cash prize and a once-in-a lifetime trip for him and seven friends to Russia but Limpopo football fanatic, Alson Baloyi, is making the most of the experience gained during the Last Fan Standing competition.
The R8 000 won as a consolation prize will enable the 25-year-old secure a driver’s licence and boost his opportunities of getting a job.
Baloyi, supporter of Kaizer Chiefs and Limpopo lower leagues outfit Mighty Fighters, is currently unemployed.
“I will use the money to get drivers license and look for work after,” he disclosed.
He recalls the day he entered the competition.
“I was broke that day,” he said.
“I just took a chance. I spent the last of my R10 on airtime and luckily,I was one of the finalists selected from thousands that took part.”
After a four-month journey, it all drew to a close when Brian Khuzwayo from Johannesburg, came out tops against seven other contestants, in televised game show.
“I think my reaction time was too slow on the buzzer, which cost me the main prize,” Baloyi said.
The show was part of the annual MTN 8, one of the biggest competitions in the local football calendar.
Mapula Bodibe, Consumer Business Executive, MTN SA, said the Last Fan Standing had previously changed many lives.
“We are glad to continue leaving a lasting impact through our products,” she said.
