JOHANNESBURG – MAMELODI Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, believes his side is capable of clinching an unprecedented treble.

The Pretoria team is in contention for the Nedbank Cup, Absa Premiership and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

“I know sometimes it backfires when you say you want all trophies and end up getting nothing. Or you say you will go for one just to manage the supporters and the expectations,” Mosimane said.

“For my own motivation and confidence, I would say I’m going for everything. We have done it before and there is nothing stopping us from doing it once more. That’s the reference for me.”

By winning the treble, Sundowns could emulate their success between 2016 and 2017 when they clinched the Champions League, domestic title and the Super Cup.

Striker Percy Tau is also in line to secure the individual accolades in the Absa Premiership, to put the icing on Sundowns’ cake.

The in-form attacker is a favourite for the Top Goal Scorer and Player of the Season awards.

He scored his eleventh strike this past weekend to draw level with Polokwane City’s Rodney Ramagalela.

Judging by current form, Tau looks likely to win the race for the Golden Boot.

Among the chasing pack are SuperSport United’s Evans Rusike (8), Gift Motupa (Baroka,8) and Khama Billiat (Sundowns,7).

On six goals are Aubrey Modiba (Supersport), Lehlohonolo Majoro (Bidvest Wits), Walter Musona (Polokwane City), Mhlengi Cele (Golden Arrows) and Siphelele Magubane (AmaZulu).

The title race resumes on Saturday with Sundowns hosting defending champions Wits at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Kick-off is 15h00.

Also on Saturday, Free State Stars will play Bloemfontein Celtic at Goble Park in a Free State provincial derby while crisis-torn Kaizer Chiefs host relegation-haunted Platinum Stars at FNB Stadium.

Cape Town City host SuperSport at Athlone Stadium.

On Sunday, AmaZulu will host second-placed Orlando Pirates at King Zwelithini Stadium.

Baroka entertain Maritzburg United at Peter Mokaba Stadium while Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town square up at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
