JOHANNESBURG  – THE African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 qualifying matches kick off this weekend offer a chance for participants at the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) to redeem themselves.

Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria Senegal and Tunisia, who all disappointed with first round exits in Russia, will all be in action.

They face Niger, Malawi, Seychelles, Madagascar and Swaziland respectively.

Their opponents are rated as lightweights.

However, the focus will be on individual players likely to continue from where they left off.

Leading goal scorer, Knowledge Musona of Zimbabwe is expected to pursue his form.

He leads with three goals after he grabbed a hat trick against Liberia.

Zimbabwe, which leads Group G, travel to Brazzaville against Congo on Sunday.

Zimbabwe is expected to field the bulk of its players plying their trade at the South African premiership league with the on-form Khama Billiat and Teenage Hadebe (Kaizer Chiefs), Evans Rusike and Onismor Bhasera (both SuperSport United) expected to shine.

There is also Talent Chawapiwa (Baroka FC), George Chigova (Polokwane City), Ronald Pfumbidzai (Bloemfontein Celtic), Kudakwashe Mahachi and Marshall Munetsi both of Orlando Pirates.

Zimbabwe’s neighbours, South Africa, will host Libya at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are currently occupying second spot in Group E, a victory on Saturday will see them getting closer to qualification to the 2019 AFCON finals to be hosted in Cameroon.

The hosts have assembled a strong squad that includes Keagan Dolly (Montpellier, France) and Percy Tau (Royal Union, Belgium).

South Africa failed to qualify in the 2017 AFCON finals held in Gabon.
