CAPE TOWN – BUILDING on its R14,3 million (US$852 627) support it has already given to vulnerable South African communities, Nedbank is joining forces with humanitarian organisations responding to the coronavirus (COVID-19) spike.

Nedbank, one of the biggest local banks, has partnered World Vision and Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to give South African consumers and organisations the opportunity to offer vital support and help to at-risk and vulnerable families as well as healthcare frontline workers.

This support comes as the risks and impacts of COVID-19 peak across the country.

The initiative, known as the Nedbank For Good Project, is a crowd-funding campaign.

“As South Africa’s infection rate continues to climb, and winter sets
in, the need for immediate support of the vulnerable population and
protection of healthcare workers is increasing rapidly,” Lindiwe Temba, Executive Head of Nedbank Foundation, said.

World Vision and Doctors Without Borders will manage and distribute food, toiletries, clothing and personal protective items funded by the donations to the Nedbank For Good.

Initially, this support will focus on vulnerable women, children and
families in Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Western Cape.

Depending on money raised, this distribution network may later be
expanded to cover all provinces.

South Africa is experiencing a peak in COVIJD-19 infections and deaths.

At the time of publication, there were 4 172 deaths from 287 796 cases.
