HARARE, (CAJ News) – THE death of veteran Zimbabwean opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, and the resignation of South African President, Jacob Zuma, caught global attention as evidenced by the buzz in social media.

Both events that had Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, WeChat and Tencent QQ buzzing occurred on Wednesday, arguably dominating even the Valentine’s
Day, which was on the same day.

Tsvangirai (aged 65), the founder and president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), succumbed to cancer of colon in South Africa, the neighbouring country that has been experiencing political turmoil.

Coincidentally, Zuma announced his resignation, bringing an end to a political stalemate running for weeks.

Cyril Ramaphosa has since succeeded Zuma.

The diplomatic community has been sending its condolences following Tsvangirai’s death and well-wishes after the inauguration of Ramaphosa, who replaced Zuma.
