Cahora Bassa Dam

MAINTENANCE at the Cahora Bassa Dam in neighbouring Mozambique is this week poised to add stability to South Africa’s power system.

Eskom, the power utility, reported that work at the hydroelectric dam had been progressing well, with exports to South Africa expected to gradually ramp up from Monday.

Eskom expects to get the full 1 500MW from Cahora Bassa on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the power system is stable and no load shedding is currently taking place.

“Only 2 hours and 20 minutes of load shedding has been implemented in the past 43 days.

“And, since it was stage 1 load shedding, this meant that 96 percent of South Africans still received uninterrupted electricity supply on that day,” Eskom stated.

The company nonetheless urged the public to make a positive difference by reducing electricity usage at home and at the office.
