Plaudits pour in for champions Ajax

PORT ELIZABETH, (CAJ News) – THE country’s main opposition has heaped praise on Ajax Cape Town after the side won he MTN 8 this past weekend.

The Cape Town side conquered the odds stacked against them to beat favourites Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the final played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Democratic Alliance Western Cape Spokesperson on Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, said the party was wishing many more success for Ajax in the Premiership race.

“We are happy that Ajax is putting Western Cape soccer back on the map. Ajax Cape Town emerged victorious against Kaizer Chiefs in Port Elizabeth on Saturday,” said Mackenzie.

“Their success today made them heroes for youngsters in the various communities of Cape Town and Western Cape. The hard work and dedication by Ajax Cape Town resulted in a victory that sends an encouraging message to the youth.

“We also note that most of team Ajax came through their academies. This is proof of the positive impact that investing in the youth can have,” Mackenzie said.

Ajax were underdogs ahead of the match but overcame questionable match officiating, a hostile crowd and the star-studded Chiefs to win the trophy and R8 million.

Prior to the final, they knocked Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits.
