Drop box scammers

MONEY SCAMMERSDURBAN, (CAJ News) – FOUR alleged scammers who pretended to be police officers during their devious schemes have been arrested in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal.

They are suspected to be involved in a number of drop money scam in the province.

Their modus operandi is targeting their victim knowing that he or she has money.

One of the suspects will ‘drop off’ money next to the victim. The suspect will then approach the victim saying that they got this money and they must go and share it. While talking with the confused victim, other two or three suspects will come and approach the two and pretend as if they are police officers investigating a case where the two were seen picking up money.

The suspects will take all to another secluded place where they will rob the victim of their money. The suspects are aged between 20 and 30.

Police appeaedl to anyone who might be fallen victim of such scam to come forward and report the their cases to any local police station.

“We also appeal to the community not to be the victims of such crimes. They must not entertain those who said they got money and they must share it,” said KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, said.
