JOHANNESBURG -FOR the better part of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era, Jomo Cosmos have earned a reputation as a yo-yo team, bouncing between the top flight and the second tier of local football.

It is no wonder the name Cosmos and relegation are again mentioned in the same breath as the current campaign draws to a conclusion.

With five games of the season left to play, Ezenkosi are flirting with relegation, placed bottom in the 16-team log.

History and current form suggests Jomo Sono’s returnees are candidates for the dreaded axe or the playoff berth but the club owner-cum-coach remains defiant.

“Until the fat lady sings we are not conceding the fight,” says the veteran coach whose side is still smarting from a 2-0 loss to title favourites, Mamelodi Sundowns.

The defeat means with 25 games played, they have already lost half the number of games allocated per season, winning only five and drawing the rest.

He reckons if his players display spirited performances witnessed in the second half of their match against the Brazilians will make other relegation candidates like the University of Pretoria and Mariztburg United easy pickings as it still has to play against both.

Cosmos have a date with AmaTuks on May 1 and play the Maritzburg-based strugglers on the last day of the season.

“We have three home matches against Bloemfontein Celtic, AmaTuks and Maritzburg. If we win all the three and get two points in other games surely we will survive, says Sono, whose team still has to play inconsistent Golden Arrows and Ajax Cape Town.

Besides playing Cosmos, AmaTuks, who on 21 points are appoint above Ezenkosi, are set to play deposed champions Kaizer Chiefs, favourites Mamelodi Sundowns, Polokwane City, and unpredictable Golden Arrows.

Bottom-placed United also have fixtures against Ajax, Arrows, Orlando Pirates and Supersport United.
