JOHANNESBURG – HOSTS South Africa will resume their rivalry with Zimbabwe when the two  senior national   women’s teams clash at the Makhulong , Tembisa .

A spectacle is on the cards with the Banyana Banyana and the Mighty Warriors, respectively, two women representatives at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games set for August.

The match kicks-off at 15h00 on Sunday. Previous encounters have been closely-fought, including the last meeting, an international  friendly in 2014, which ended in a stalemate in Harare.

“The last time we played against Zimbabwe, it ended in a goalless draw so this will be good for our preparations,” says Banyana coach, Vera Pauw.

However, Zimbabwe’s 1-0 win over their southern neighbours to win the Council of Southern African Football Associations  Women’s Championships in memory of both sets of players.

Pauw nonetheless says revenge is not on the back of their minds.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for both us and Zimbabwe, Africa’s representatives in the women’s tournament at the Olympics, to showcase what we can potentially unleash at the Olympics.”

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games run from 3 – 20 August. The South Africans are in Group E alongside Brazil, Sweden and China, while Zimbabwe is in Group F against Canada, Australia and Germany.
