JOHANNESBURG – Relative calm has returned to the City of Tshwane, media reports have suggested, although the capital is still tense with movement of people still restricted.

According to News24,a “semblance of normality returned to the settlement of Hammanskraal on Wednesday morning with people moving unhindered, a far cry from the state of lockdown just 24 hours before.”

Violence engulfed Pretoria following the announcement by the African National Congress that KwaZulu-Natal-born Thoko Didiza would be the mayoral candidate for Tshwane ahead of Tshwane born Kgosientso Ramokgopa.

Security forces have been on high alert in the city where 19 buses were burnt down and several shops looted in the aftermath of the protests in which some citizens are demanding that Ramokgopa must re-contest in the 2016 Municipal elections as mayor .
