Joburg BRT scheme inspires Tanzania

ARUSHA (CAJ News) – THE Tanzanian Roads Authority has appointed a South African firm, Gibb Engineering and Architecture to do a Transport Visibility Study in Dar-es-Salaam.

This in recognition of Gibb’s Bus-Rapid-Transport (BRT) they conducted for the city of Johannesburg in South Africa.

Gibb Group Business Development Executive Manager, Muzi Siyaya, disclosed the deal in Arusha where he is part of a Department of Trade and Industry two- leg Outward Selling and Investment Mission to Tanzania.

Gibb is one of the 20 leading South African companies currently in Tanzania.

Siyaya said they had identified Tanzania as their hub centre to further access the Ethiopian, Rwandan Ugandan markets.

He was able to identify partners they could work with and are intending to formalise the agreement with a memorandum of understanding once when all internal processes had been covered.

“Most importantly , there is another opportunity we intend pursuing together with Bigen Africa to see how we can best assist AtoZ Textile Mills in Arusha alleviate their power challenges and help them reduce their operational costs,” said Siyaya.

“We do recognise that there is a huge infrastructure deficit in the East Africa hub which requires significant infrastructure development in the short to medium term and we are very much up to the challenges and are very much open to establishing ventures with our counterparts.”
