JOHANNESBURG – THE just- ended 2016 Engen Knockout Challenge: Johannesburg Championships gave fans thrills and quality football, where Orlando Pirates were eventually crowned champions after coming from behind to beat Bidvest Wits 6 -5 in a penalty shootout after the final ended in one-all draw at Marks Park, Emmarentia.
The highlight of the match was Pirates goalkeeper and captain Thuntsane Kopano who netted the goal of the tournament through a set piece from outside the box to cancel Ethan Andrews’ goal that put Wits in the lead.
Kopano was named Player and Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
Other winners are Wayne Pienaar (Referee of the Tournament), Givemore Khupe (Bidvest Wits- Defender of the Tournament), Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (Kaizer Chiefs- Midfielder of the Tournament), Katlego Gwinyane (Orlando Pirates- Striker of the Tournament), Mmitsi Mputle (Platinum Stars- Top Goalscorer), Godfrey Malambule (Soweto All Stars- Coach of the Tournament) and Eersterus FC (Fair Play).
Engen’s Group Sponsorship Manager, Brad Bergh, commended Pirates for clinching the tournament and Wits for providing an entertaining game.

Pirates will now join Old Mutual (Cape Town), Umqhele High School (Durban), Roo Stars (Bloemfontein) and Chippa United (Port Elizabeth) in the Engen Champion of Champions at a venue and date to be announced later.
