JOHANNESBURG – Reports from Ekhuruleni say African National Congress’ Patricia Kumalo has been elected speaker in the ongoing council meeting which will also elect the new mayor.
All 224 Ekurhuleni councillors voted and Kumalo beat the DA’s Shadow Shabangu with 117 votes to 106, with one spoilt ballot.
Kumalo is officially the municipality’s new speaker. Elections for the mayor are underway.
