JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) Mzwandile Masina is the new mayor for Ekurhuleni after getting 117 votes ahead of Democratic Alliance’s Ghaleb Cachalia who got 106 votes.

Earlier in the day Patricia Kumalo was elected speaker at the council meeting.

All 224 Ekurhuleni councilors voted and Kumalo beat the DA’s Shadow Shabangu with 117 votes to 106, with one spoilt ballot.

Kumalo is officially the municipality’s new speaker.
