JOHANNESBURG – A SHOWDOWN looms at the African National Congress headquarters at Luthuli House, this morning , as security personnel and members loyal to President Jacob Zuma, brace for protests dubbed “Occupy Luthuli House” in Johannesburg’s CBD this morning, amid heavy police presence, with nyalas, metro police and private security personnel in military.

The protesters, who are expected to be about 2 000 are demanding that Zuma and the party’s national executive committee resign following the ANC’s losses in the August 3 local government elections.

Previous press reports say the protestors include former Wits University Students Representative Council (SRC) president Mcebo Dlamini, Johannesburg ANC member Sasa Manganye, and former ANC Youth League national executive committee member Ntibi Modise.

Meanwhile, the ANC Youth League and women’s league have warned the protesters , saying if they continue with the demonstration, they will find real ANC members waiting for them. Though its seems to be business as usual for ordinary people and businesses a heavy media contingency is camped outside the ruling party’s offices.
