JOHANNESBURG – ZIMBABWEAN players plying their trade in neighbouring South Africa have struck a rich vein of form at the right time as the countdown to the Africa Cup of Nations begins.

The Absa Premiership’s man-of-the-moment Tendai Ndoro, and Orlando Pirates Football Club was again unstoppable on Tuesday as he grabbed a brace for his side in a 2-1 win away to Ajax Cape Town.

The prolific striker has scored five goals in two matches, an extraordinary ratio by local standards considering ten goal have previously been enough to win the top goal scorer award in a 30-match season.

Ndoro has scored ALL Pirates’ goals to steer his side to the top of the premiership logo standings.

If Ndoro’s form is anything to go by, this season, he might be the serious contender for the premiership top goal scorer, the award won by Collins Mbesuma of then Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Meanwhile, Ndoro’s countrymen Charlton Mashumba and Marshall Munetsi, were on target as their respective sides, Highlands Park and Baroka FC respectively, played an eventful match at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa, also on Tuesday.

Highlands Park eventually won the match featuring the two premiership newcomers, 2-1.

Featuring in the same match, Highlands’ Zimbabwean captain, Tapuwa Kapini, saved two penalties to ensure victory for his side.

The players’ form is a major boost for Zimbabwe, which will be the only Southern African team at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for January-February in Gabon.

Meanwhile, the Absa Premiership resumes on Wednesday with Kaizer Chiefs entertaining Platinum Stars at the FNB Stadium in Soweto

Golden Arrows welcome new boys Cape Town City to the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

Free State Stars host Bloemfontein Celtic in a Free State derby set for Goble Park in Bethlehem.

Champions Mamelodi Sundowns visit unpredictable Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
