JOHANNESBURG – ZIMBABWEAN internationals have continued their impressive form in the early stages of South Africa’s ABSA Premiership where Kaizer Chiefs have shot to the top of the log.

Industrious midfielder and Zimbabwe captain, Willard “Salt and Vinegar” Katsande and countryman, Michelle Katsvairo, were on target on Wednesday as the Soweto giant registered a third victory on the trot, defeating Free State Stars 2-0 at the James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney.

Katsande netted early from the penalty spot while preseason signing Katsvairo scored his first goal for the club in the second half to ensure maximum points.

Chiefs top the 16 team standings with ten points from five games.

They are ahead of Golden Arrows on goal difference after the Durban side played to a 1-1 draw against visiting SuperSport United.

SuperSport United’s hard-running Zimbabwe forward, Kingston Nkhatha, put his side in front only for Arrows to hit back through Musa Bilankulu at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, Durban.

Meanwhile, surprise package Chippa United massacred newly-promoted Baroka FC 4-1 in a one sided match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The Chilli Boys, as the attack-minded Chippa United are affectionately called, grabbed their goals through Marc van Heerden, David Zulu, Mbulelo Wambi and Thembinjosi Lorch while Baroka found their consolation courtesy of Ndivhuwo Ravhulali.

League football will take a recess this weekend to make way for the MTN 8 final between Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns at the Mbombela Stadium.
