JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SOUTH African champions Mamelodi Sundwns has warned players against complacency ahead of their match against Egypt’s Zamalek in the Confederation of African Football Champions League on Sunday.
Sundowns players will participate in their biggest match in years when they play the hosts at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Egypt in the decider.
The South Africans carry a seemingly healthy lead to North Africa after a 3-0 victory in Pretoria.
“The fact that they come into Sunday’s game with a 3-goal cushion from the first leg will count for nothing if they allow the Egyptians to get back into the contest,” the club warns its players in a statement.
Head coach Pitso Mosimane has tried to temper expectations by warning that Zamalek scored four goals in the same contest against Morocco giants Wydad Casablanca in the semi-finals at the same venue.
Before that they had not scored more than two goals in the contest.
A strategy was revealed for the match.
“The preaching that prevailed at Chloorkop was simple this week: Let’s start from a clean slate. Forget last weekend’s game,” The Brazilians stated.
“It’s 0-0 and we need at least two goals. And we need to focus. We need to play the game in segments.”
The strategy is to score in the first 30 minutes and another in the last 30 minutes.
“More importantly Sundowns must be focused throughout.”
