JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa has made significant strides in technological surveillance, which has come in handy in the fight against crime.

This is according to Axis Communications, whose executives pointed out surveillance had ensured the safety of South Africans and helped solve some breakthrough cases.

“Video is used in court of law. There is high quality frame rate and conversion is retrieved and submissible by forensics lab,” says Roy Alves, Business Development Manager for Axis Communications for Middle East and Africa.

Axis has helped several transit authorities, operators and infrastructure owners to meet their surveillance goals.

This has enabled a safer and more secure transportation environment, less vandalism and violence as well as fraudulent insurance.

Axis Communications is a Swedish manufacturer of network cameras for the physical security and video surveillance industries.

Alves is a panelist at the upcoming Big Breakfast Interview on Public Transport Transformation event set for the Hotel Fire and Ice in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. African press Association is organising the event.

Alves says the past few years have seen enormous strides in network video.

This will be the focus of discussion at the event in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

“The goal of the event is to provide and facilitate a platform that bridges the communication gap between passenger transport service providers, relevant stakeholders, and commuters. Such communication is essential in the modification of the transport industry.”

With over 16 years experience, in 2006, Alves successfully established the first Axis Office in Africa when he was appointed Country Manager.

Prior to that, subsequently in1998 he represented Axis as Managing Director of SCS Distribution which he also established.

Through he has undertaken to donating cameras to underprivileged schools and also supports National Sea Rescue, and Rhino Sanctuary Guide Dogs SA and Sanie to Sea as his choice of charities.
