Chippa United has announced the signing of experienced striker, Katlego “Mahoota” Mashego (34) on a 20-month contract (until the end of the 2017/18 season).

Born in Bushbuckridge, Mashego left Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of 2015/2016 season, and joins the Port Elizabeth side as a free agent.

The well-travelled striker who started his career at Hellenic, then Silver Stars, joined SuperSport United in 2008 where he won the league. He earned a big move to Orlando Pirates, where he won the treble in 2011/2012.

The former Bafana Bafana striker had a brief stint at Golden Arrows, then joined Moroka Swallows where he earned the Top Goal Scorer Award at the end of the 2012/2013 season.
He joined Mamelodi Sundowns in August 2013, where he won more silverware under the tutelage of coach, Pitso Mosimane.

Mashego started training with the ChilliBoys last weekend, with the Executive Chairman welcoming him to the side.

“We are delighted to welcome Katlego Mashego to Chippa United Football Club. We were struggling a bit upfront, and could not look further than Katlego who was immediately available for us.

He is a player that brings a lot of experience to the team. His talent and knack for scoring goals is not in doubt. We are aware of his ability, and what he is going to bring to this young side. He will help us with the youngsters in the team.

Mpengesi further revealed that he tried to sign Mashego when he left Golden Arrows; “We tried to get him to come to Cape Town (where the team was based before moving to Port Elizabeth) but he was not available. I am happy today that he will wear the blue and white of Chippa United. I wish him all the best during his time with us,”

Mashego equally expressed his delight for joining Chippa United .

“It is great to be here and a wonderful opportunity for me. When I heard that coach, Dan Malesela was interested, I did not think twice about coming down here. Chippa United is a great team, and they play football the right way. I am excited to be here, and look forward to contributing to the Club,”

Katlego Mashego will wear jersey no. 43, and travelled to Johannesburg with the team for the Absa Premiership encounter against Bidvest Wits.
