JOHANNESBURG -For those staying in Joburg over the December holidays and looking for ideas of how to entertain the children – there is no better way than by taking them to see The Big Bad Musical, on stage at Roodepoort Theatre from for a short season from 15 – 23 December.
The Big Bad Musical is a smart, wickedly funny and interactive musical for the youngsters as well as the young-at-heart.
It tells the story of the court case. A courtroom has never been more lively and fun. The jury, which is the audience, must decide the outcome of the biggest trial that’s ever taken place in the fairy-tale world.
The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by quirky storybook characters who want to get even, being Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.
The plaintiff’s attorney is Miss Fairy Godmother, while Mr. Wolf is represented by none other than The Wicked Witch, who was assigned the pro bono case – a clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after!
There is non-stop fun in this 60-minute musical delight, including fantastic original songs and hilarious audience participation for the children, making it an end-of-year experience not to be missed.
It features Mandla Gaduka as The Judge
Mandla Is a South African actor best known for his starring role as Solomon, one of Lebo’s (Mahlubi Kraai) oldest and broke-est friends, in the the-big-bad-musical-posterSABC1 sitcom Gauteng Maboneng. It was his first major television role. He also plays the bit part of Choppa in SABC1’s Generations.
He made his feature film debut in the award- winning science fiction movie District 9 in 2009, in the role of Fundiswa Mhlanga. In 2011 he was one of the contestants on the SABC1 reality competition Dance Your Butt Off.
Isabella Jane – News Reporter
Isabella Jane and Rosie made their debut in Born To Perform Gala Concert 2015 at The Lyric Theatre. Since then they have become well known figures by coming runner up in the TV reality show SA’s Got Talent. After this, her career at the tender age of 17 years has sky rocketed. She has made many appearances on the comedy platforms including Comedy Central and also performed in A Night with The Stars with he Johannesburg Youth Orchestra where she MC’d with Rosie. She has been invited back a one of the stars of Born To Perform Gala Concert 2016 taking place in December.
Philip Hanly – The Big Bad Wolf
Originally from Zimbabwe, Philip came to Johannesburg to follow his dreams in a career in theatre and music. After being spotted on the Born To Perform platform, he has appeared in music videos, corporate events including singing with the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra in A Night With The Stars. He has just finished his first single with his duet group called Born Free and is due for release early 2017.
Ziyanda Yako – Evil Stepmother
Ziyanda was born in the culturally rich town of Grahamstown. It is here where Ziyanda fell in love with the arts and first discovered her talents when the Princess of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, invited her onstage at the age of nine at the Grahamstown Arts festival. Since then, Ziyanda has performed in numerous shows such as Footloose, Mulan, Dream Girls, The Colored Museum and four of Jannice Honeyman’s Pantomimes. She is also in constant demand countless corporate events around the country and internationally. Ziyanda has also appeared in local soap Scandal, tv series Ayeye, Saints and Sinner and High Rollers.
Simoné Nortmann – Fairy Godmother
Simoné Nortmann is a South African award winning actress best known for her role as Nadia Croukamp in the renowned local Afrikaans soap, 7de Laan for which she garnered a Best Newcomer Award in 2013. Other TV credentials include Jony in KykNET’s mockumentary, Hotel.
While studying, she took part in various student productions and children’s interactive theatre productions including Die Fluitspeler van Hamelin, Lunch Girls, and AWBW TV which she wrote and co-directed.
Simoné made her local film debut in 2016 in Huisgenoot’s romantic comedy, “Vir die Voëls”, as female lead, “Irma de Klerk”. (it premieres Thurs 17 November) She is currently set to go into production early next year for the long-awaited Vuil Wasgoed as Niki, love interest of male-lead, “Kevin” (Bennie Fourie).
Apart from working on set she has also starred in two music videos, an award winning short film, Vuil Wasgoed (Kyknet Silwerskermfees 2014), and made guest appearances on various television shows, of which most recently on Kyknet’s Vrydag Nag Laat comedy programme.
The Big Bad Musical is a must-see for all ages that is guaranteed to be a highlight on Roodepoort‘s 2016 theatre calendar.
