DURBAN – SOUTH Africa’s Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) Province has welcomed its selection as host of the State of the Continent briefing by the African Union Commission (AUC).
The event will be held in Durban on Monday, presented by outgoing AUC chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who was born in Natal (in 1949).
“We believe that this is a vote of confidence in our ability to host, successfully, international events,” says KZN Premier, Willies Mchunu.
He says the event will be broadcast around the continent and the global community, giving the province access to the global audience, which is boost for marketing
efforts.
“The province has positioned itself as the home of African renaissance celebrations as well as an important venue for high profile national and international events
that are hosted in South Africa,” Mchunu adds.
This is the latest high profile event the province has hosted in Durban.
These conferences include World Economic Forum, Non-Aligned Movement Summit, the largest AIDS International Conference in year 2000 and 2016, the Commonwealth
Conference, CORP 17 (United Nations Climate Change Conference) and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Summit.
Durban has also hosted the Soccer World Cup in 2010 and will host the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
