JOHANNESBURG – THE upcoming Absa Premiership break will come as a relief to struggling Limpopo side Baroka FC after an indifferent debut campaign in the elite league.
Indiscipline and inconsistent have marred their campaign as they ballet against relegation.
After garnering the tag of giant killers during their campaign in the National First Division, they were expected to translate the brilliant performances against the big boys but to no avail.
Almost halfway into the season, Bakgaga, as the team is affectionately know, are precariously placed 14th in the 16-team table, only above fellow first timers Highlands Park and struggling Free State Stars.
Baroka have secured a dozen points from 14 games, the 12th coming this past weekend at home to Golden Arrows.
The match finished 1-1.
African and local champions Mamelodi Sundowns lie in wait for the side’s next fixture, scheduled for the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Thursday. The league will only restart in February.
While good results have been hard to come by, it is a different story with yellow cards.
They have secured 24 yellow cards, including one for “lack of respect of an opponent.”
Bakgaga are only ahead of bad boys Ajax Cape Town, Free State Stars and Supersport United.
Central defender Percyvell Nkabinde will miss the game against Sundowns after he was sent off against Arrows.
Baroka’s only moment of brilliance thus far is the equalizing goal Oscarine Masuluke, the goalkeeper, scored at the death against Orlando Pirates. The match finished one-all.
The goal, scored via a bicycle kick on the edge of the area, sparked a frenzy around the world.
