JOHANNESBURG) – THE South African Police Service (SAPS) has dismissed a circulating hoax implying police stations and hospitals would be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
Acting National Commissioner, Lt Gen. Khomotso Phahlane, lashed at the originators of the prank, accusing them of causing panic and create false alarm.
“There is a place for humour, undoubtedly, but it is not in this environment,” said Phahlane.
He said SAPS, in complete contrast to this report, had intensified its efforts to ensure the country was safe over the festive season.
Countrywide operations were launched several weeks ago and there is no doubt that our communities had witnessed the heightened police visibility.
“All in South Africa will see blue across the nation over the coming weeks,” said Phahlane.
Together with its counterparts in law enforcement and other essential services, SAPS would not be resting and celebrating with their families, he said.
