JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – CENTRE for African Journalists (CAJ) News Africa has been awarded the HOPe Africa 2016 Corporate Media Award, announced in the United States.
HOPe Africa, the US-headquartered non-governmental organisation registered with global agencies such as the United Nations, has conferred the award.
It recognises the South African-based news agency’s role in promoting unity and investment in the continent, particularly Nigeria, which is suffering political, ethnic and religious tensions, the Boko Haram terror group and economic challenges.
Francis John, Executive Director of HOPe Africa, said CAJ News’
accomplishment was respected worldwide, most especially with the advent of HOPe Africa which is driven by creating friendly societies for all ages regardless of disabilities and pioneering human development.
“In Africa’s most populous country and biggest economy (Nigeria), your storylines are inspiring confidence for investment despite peace and security challenges,” said John in a citation.
He said the Corporate Media Award was also a result of CAJ News Africa’ strength in cumulative, exemplary, timely and investigative journalism in a competitive and viral media world.
In Nigeria, articles by CAJ News are to be compiled and included in a volume that will be sold and proceeds donated to millions displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
“We look forward to working with your outfit, majorly in the areas of
advocacy, sensitisation and humanity,” said John.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri and with a branch in the United Kingdom, HOPe Africa is involved in such areas as community integration, social services, crisis relief and management, advocacy and empowerment.
The NGO was initiated in 2003.
CAJ News Africa Chief Executive Officer, Savious-Parker Kwinika, said the award confirmed the organisation as the premier Pan African news agency in the continent.
“Professionalism, integrity and focus on reporting African issues objectively has seen us voted the best, most credible and authentic Pan African news agency. It confirms to Africa and the entire world CAJ News is a media force to reckon with,” said Kwinika.
He expressed humility at the award.
Kwinika lauded the sterling work of Group Head of Africa News, Mthulisi Sibanda, and Group Online Editor, Gift Ndolwane, as well as all correspondents around the continent for the job well done.
“The award, announced in the world’s biggest economy (United States of America) is a morale boost for the year 2017 and beyond,” said an excited Kwinika.
“I also thank Jehovah God for moving with us. He enables us to shine in spite of prevailing challenges,” said Kwinika.
The award comes on the heels of CAJ News Africa clinching a major award, also in the United States, for promoting investment, technology and peace building in Africa.
