JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Gauteng Department of Education has welcomed the expulsion of two Norkem Park High School students for possession and brandishing weapons.
Ten learners have been suspended for engaging in violent behaviour.
They will appear before disciplinary hearing once the investigation is concluded.
Expelled learners must undergo a programme of rehabilitation, before they are placed at another school.
There are approximately 18 learners believed to be involved in the scuffle.
The learners at Norkem were on Monday and Tuesday involved in disputes about relationships.
Gauteng Member of the Executive Committe for Education, Panyaza Lesufi,visited the school on Friday to verify the series of videos, which surfaced on social media.
The videos depict learners involved in violence.Lesufi welcomed the corrective measures taken.
“The Department strongly condemns violence and disruption of education at our schools and will not hesitate to intervene on issues of ill-discipline and misconduct by learners or educators.”
