JOHANNESBURG (Gauteng Guardian) – LEARNING and teaching has resumed in Hoёrskool Pretoria Wes following protests by students demanded the incorporation of skinny pants into school uniform.
Learning was disrupted on Friday emanated from two unruly learners who transgressed the code of conduct regarding uniform.
Following a disciplinary process, the learners received a sanction of a seven-day suspension.
The suspension lapsed on Thursday, wherein they began to coerce otherlearners to force the school to allow them to wear skinny pants.
Gauteng Department of Education condemned the action of the learners and urges all students to use available structures at all times, to raised issues of concern, and not resort to disrupting school.
Education Member of the Executive Committee, Panyaza Lesufi, said it was unfortunate and disappointing that schooling was distracted by what he regarded as petty issues, which should not be a priority.
“Our focus is on enhancing the quality of education, which is performance driven, we are preoccupied by pre-trial examinations and preparations for final examinations,” Lesufi said.
