MwabuJOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – LEARNERS and young women in Zambia have received a major boost after Mwabu, the education technology company, partnered with Financial Sector Deepening Zambia (FSDZ) to develop a financial education curriculum.
Mwabu is creating a blended learning and certification programme that combines face-to-face and virtual education.
Leveraging existing relationships in rural communities together with cutting-edge technology and world-class content, the programme will impact a significant number of learners in the country.
Mwabu has already been active in developing bespoke learning content and resources for a range of organisations across sectors in Zambia, such as wildlife and healthcare.
“Our mission is to create educational opportunities for learners across Africa such that they develop the means, not only to improve their own lives, but also the lives of others in their communities,” said Justin Reilly, Chief Executive Officer of Mwabu.
Mwabu vision aligns well with the FSD Africa’s mission to make financial markets in Africa work and to develop financial skills across the continent through the use of the organisation’s resources, expertise and research.
By 2018, FSD Africa plans to work with 20 different institutions to train 5 000 financial professionals to deliver financial services to 3 million disadvantaged people.
Initially, content will be rolled out to learners from grades one to twelve in the Eastern Province of Zambia, along with the NetGirls group in the region.
NetGirls caters for women between the ages of 15 and 22, most of whom are not enrolled in formal education. Thereafter, the project will be extended to another two provinces within the country.
“Through similar bespoke initiatives across different sectors in countries throughout the continent, Mwabu hopes to continue making a difference to the future of young people in Africa,” said Reilly.
The project, which is underway, will be implemented in phases and is expected to reach completion in December 2019.
Formerly known as iSchool, Mwabu offers a full ecosystem of educational products and services into African markets, including core services such as the development of curriculum aligned teaching and learning resources, devices and hardware, as well as the Mwabu Training Academy.
