JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – MTN South Africa is optimising network quality in major cities across South Africa with Rustenburg, northwest of the country, now covered by the firm’s rollout of LTE (4G) network.
The increased LTE coverage in the mining town was achieved through re-farming of existing spectrum.
The LTE activation followed significant new site densification in Rustenburg in 2017 as well as deployment of UMTS900 to improve indoor 3G coverage.
The UMTS900 band would supplement the new sites and assist in offering better indoor penetration characteristics.
This overall programme in Rustenburg is a continuation of MTN’s network strategy underpinned by faster speeds, quality voice and expansive coverage.
“A Bozza network translates to faster download and upload speeds, clearer voice quality and ubiquitous coverage for our customers,” said Giovanni Chiarelli, Chief Information and Technology Officer: MTN South Africa.
Chiarelli said commitment to provide high performing networks that cater to the digital boom and voice demands of customers was at the heart of MTN’s network rollout strategy.
“I am thrilled at the rate at which we have expanded our LTE coverage and remain confident that our customers will reap the benefits of a seamless and world class network,” the executive said.
It is anticipated with all the recent investment in Rustenburg, customers can look forward to significantly better indoor data coverage, faster downloads, seamless web browsing and better video streaming with minimal buffering.
