JOHANNESBURG, (Gauteng Guardian) – THE Gauteng Department of Education has condemned the fatal shooting of a deputy principal at a school in the East Rand.
About three armed men visiting the school claiming to come fix an electrical problem shot dead the school official in Edalinceba Primary School in Duduza on Tuesday.
The official was killed in his office.
Gauteng Member of the Executive Committe for Education, Panyaza Lesufi,expressed anger and sadness.
“Our schools are turning out to be a hunting environment for criminals.
This is unbearable but we wish for calm,” he said.
The MEC has visited the school and the family of the deceased. The department has offered counseling with immediate effect to all affected.
Lesufi urged law enforcement agencies to prioritise the case.
“It is important for the police to maintain high police visibility. We urge anyone with information that may assist with this case to come forward.”
