JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – HUAWEI and Porsche Design have launched the deluxe Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS to the South African market.
The smartphone, described by the companies as highly sophisticated and powerful, is exclusive to MTN at a recommended retail price of R 26 459 (over US$2 000).
Likun Zhao, Vice President of Huawei Consumer Business Group Southern Africa, said the launch followed the success of the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10 Pro in South Africa.
“We are proud to bring the uniqueness of the device with cutting-edgetechnologies, which people will fall in love with – from three-point security feature including facial recognition, rear fingerprint scanner and the new innovative in-screen fingerprint to the Leica triple camera system – culminating in an unprecedented experience for our customers,” Zhao said.
Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS features what is said to be the world’s first dual fingerprint design including an innovative in-screen fingerprint sensor, the world’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)
processor and Leica triple camera with 40MP image capture.
With 256GB of internal storage, the phone has a 6” 2K curved OLED screen and wonderfully symmetrical look, minimalist feel and a stylish 8-edged 3D curved glass body.
Jan Becker, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Design Group, said the company and Huawei seek to imagine and develop products that stand for precision and perfection, intelligent functionality and highly sophisticated design.
“Our aim was to create an outstanding device that goes one step further. We believe we have reached this goal by taking our partnership to the next level,” Becker said.
Porsche Design was founded in 2003 as a majority-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG to combine Porsche AG’s and Porsche Design Group’s accessories and licensing business into one single company.
The Porsche Design Huawei Mate Series is a collaboration project of Porsche Design and Huawei since 2016.
Other products in the collaboration include Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9, Mate 10 and Watch 2.
